This Privacy Policy describes how Home List ("the App", "we", "us") collects, uses, and protects your information. Home List is a shared household app for coordinating shopping lists, chores, and location-based store reminders.
Account information. When you create an account, we collect your email address and a password. Your password is never stored in plain text — authentication is handled by our backend provider, Supabase, using industry-standard encryption. You also choose a display name shown to other members of your household.
Household data. To provide the App's shared features, we store the content you and your household create: shopping/to-do lists and their items, chores and their details, the stores you add, and a household activity feed of recent actions (e.g. "added milk", "completed take out the trash"). We retain only the newest 50 activity entries for each household, matching what the activity feed displays. This data is shared with the members of your household so you can coordinate together.
Location data. With your permission, the App uses your device's location to power its store-reminder feature. See the dedicated section below.
Calendar events (optional). On your phone, you can choose calendars from your device's calendar app to share with your household. Only the calendars you tick are read, and nothing is read by default. See the dedicated section below.
Subscription information. If you purchase a Home List Premium subscription, payment is processed entirely by Apple's App Store or Google Play — we never see or store your payment card details. We receive only confirmation of your active subscription status, via our subscription provider (RevenueCat) and Apple/Google, so the App can unlock premium features for your household.
Information we do not collect. We do not collect advertising identifiers, and we do not use third-party advertising or ad-tracking services. We do not store a history of your movements (see below).
In short: Home List uses your location only to remind you when you're near a store that has unchecked items. It uses low-power operating-system "geofences" around stores you choose — not continuous tracking — and we do not upload or store a record of where you go. If you turn on Live Alerts — off by default — your household is told when you arrive at a store you already share with them; see below.
What we use location for:
Background location. The store-arrival reminder requires "Always"/background location permission on your device, because you're usually not looking at the App when you approach a store. The App asks for this permission with a clear explanation first, and the feature is entirely optional — if you don't grant it, or don't pin any stores, no location is used and the rest of the App works normally.
What we store and share. We store the coordinates of the stores you choose to pin. We do not store or transmit a continuous record of your location, and we never share your coordinates with anyone. Geofence checks happen on your own device.
Live Alerts. Sharing is off unless you turn it on. If you enable “Share my store trips,” your household is notified when you arrive at one of your shared stores, and when you announce a trip by tapping “I’m going shopping” — they see your name, the store, and how many items are left, and the same line is added to your household’s activity history. No coordinates are shared, and no location history is kept. While the setting is off, nothing about your trips is sent or recorded automatically, not even privately; tapping “I’m going shopping” still posts to your household’s activity feed (it contains no location — just the store you picked), but sends no notification. You can change it any time under Notifications.
Address lookup. If you set a store by typing an address, that address text is sent to the OpenStreetMap Nominatim geocoding service to convert it into map coordinates. No account or device information is sent with it.
In short: Home List can show events from calendars already on your phone in your household's shared calendar — but only the calendars you tick, nothing by default — and it never changes your calendars.
What we read. With your permission, the App lists the calendars on your device (for example a Google, iCloud or Outlook account added to your phone). For each calendar you tick, it reads upcoming events — title, date and time, and notes — for the year ahead (repeating events, 60 days ahead) and stores them as events in your household's calendar, so the members of your household can see them. They are marked with the calendar they came from and are read-only in the App; you change them in the calendar they live in, and the App picks up the change the next time you open its Calendar tab. Reminders set on your phone stay on your phone; the App adds no reminders of its own to imported events.
What we do not do. We never create, edit or delete anything in your device's calendars. Calendars you have not ticked are not read. Untick a calendar at any time to remove its events from your household's calendar.
Permission. On iPhone, iOS offers no read-only calendar permission, so the App has to ask for full calendar access even though it only reads. On Android the App requests read-only access. The feature is entirely optional — if you don't grant the permission, or don't tick a calendar, no calendar data is read and the rest of the App works normally.
Account and household data is stored in a Postgres database managed by Supabase, protected by row-level security policies that restrict every record to the household that owns it — members of one household cannot access another household's data.
We do not sell your personal information.
You can permanently delete your account and personal data at any time from within the App: tap your profile avatar in the top-right corner, then tap Delete account. Deletion is immediate and permanent. Content you contributed to a shared household (such as list items, chores, or calendar events you imported) remains available to the other members but is no longer associated with your name. Deleting your account does not automatically cancel an active subscription — cancel that through your Apple ID or Google Play account settings.
Home List is not directed at children under 13, and you must be at least 13 years old to create an account.
We may update this Policy from time to time. We'll change the "Last updated" date above when we do. Continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Policy.
